Biography
Concert highlights include Carmina Burana with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Mozart’s Requiem with Kitchener’s Grand Philharmonic Choir, Mozart’s Lo sposo deluso with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Messiah with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, and the Matthäuspassion with Choeur Classique de Montreal.
He has participated in young artist training programs with the National Arts Centre, Centre d’Arts Orford and Académie Internationale d’été Nice and was an Artist in Residence of the Marlboro Summer Music Festival. Jean-Philippe is the recipient of the Governor General Performing Arts Awards Mentorship award, paired with Bass Joseph Rouleau.
In demand internationally, tenor Jean-Philippe Lazure is known for his “Open and honest sound, full of agility and ring”.
Jean-Philippe is a proud graduate of the Canadian Opera Company’s elite Ensemble Studio. A native of Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Jean-Philippe began his formal vocal training at the University of Ottawa and holds a bachelor and master’s degree from the Université de Montréal.
Recent seasons have seen Jean-Philippe performing roles such as Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte, the title role Candide, Georgie in John Estacio’s moving opera Ours, Le Remendado Carmen, Father André and Cartier in Louis Riel, and Conte Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia.
